A deep dive into the world of PD’s Absurd Pop Song Romance
Absurd Pop Song Romance, our album from 1998, is probably the high point of our band. The first album to feature guitarist Patrick Goodwin, and the first full album with Luis Illades as drummer (after several singles), it was a turning point from the early sound and direction of the band to what we’ve become since. It was our 6th album, and the last one we released on Lookout Records.
It has long been a favorite of John Pierson, aka John Jughead, guitarist from Screeching Weasel. For his podcast Jughead’s Basement, he takes a really in-depth look at records he loves. For Absurd, he interviewed all current band members, plus Patrick Goodwin, plus engineer Steve Albini. The result is over two hours long, one of our most in-depth interviews ever. We’re really happy with the way it turned out, and if you’re a fan of our band, we recommend checking it out (though maybe not in one sitting!).
